The tourist segment known internationally as MICE that includes the activities related to meetings and events, is becoming more relevant in several countries due to the economic impact that this sector represents in their economies. As a sample, this research aims to identify the elements that contribute to the tourism sector of host cities through the organization of scientific events. For this, the researchers selected a Brazilian institution responsible for the organization of the main conference on production engineering in the country that annually attracts over 2000 people to different cities in each edition. Interviews and analysis of documents were carried out with the organizers and the Convention Visitor Bureau in order to collect data that would help to identify the impact generated by this event on the tourist structure of the city of Maceió, host city for the 2018 edition.
