Abstract

This paper presents the role of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the economic activities in Mexico, particularly in the tourism sector of the municipality of Teotihuacán, where the famous archaeological zone is located. The paper identifies the businesses created as a result of the increase in tourism in the region, the main interests of visitors, and the measures that MSMEs can implement to promote their services and products. It is a quantitative study based on the results of the 2019 Economic Census of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), and surveys applied to tourists who have visited the archaeological zone, in order to determine the main economic activities that the MSMEs of the municipality can carry out to meet the needs of national and foreign visitors. The results show that it is possible to continue promoting tourism activity in the region through advertising strategies, improvement and expansion of services, as well as through appropriate tax regulation, so that these enterprises become drivers of economic development in the region.
